FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
GENERAL:
1. What is a PDF?
Answer: a pdf is an Adobe Acrobat file that can be read with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. It is cross platform and thus accessible to both PC and Mac users. A Finger and Toe Model pdf file must be purchased and downloaded onto to your computer before you can open it and print it.
2. But when I download it, the file extension isn't .pdf, it's .zip. Now what?
Answer: The files are zipped (a form of compression) to save space on your computer and download time. Use a common extraction program such as WinZip. Geeks will scream, but I always extract to a folder on my desktop, then move the unzipped files to places I choose. I like to look at the files before I send them to my sub-folders in "My Documents."
3. Can I share the files?
Answer: No. When you purchased the model, the license is for personal use only. You may build models and give them to your friends, but you may not share anything else. Piracy is a serious issue for online publishers. You can support their effort by not supporting piracy.
4. But what if I modify the files?
Answer: No, again. The files may not be shared in any form, even when modified. You may freely post photos online of such "kit-bashed" models and offer guidelines on your modifications. In fact, Finger and Toe Models freely encourages kit-bashing. Both Slagtown: Eden and Slagtown: Salvage were designed with kit-bashers in mind. That's why they are more construction set than model sets.
Eventually, Fingerandtoe.com will offer a gallery and forum with a comment section for kit-bashers.
PRINTING:
1. My models don't print out at the correct size.
Answer: In Adobe Reader, before you print, check the settings to make sure you are printing at the original size--page scaling should be "none."
2. What paper should I use?
Answer: Photo paper (matte finish) gives the best results, but photo paper is expensive. Use 110lb cardstock for economy.
